Who is Community health worker?
CHW is a person who helps the family and the neighbor to reach the better health. Normally, CHW is selected by the villagers from different places who have high capacity and enough competencies. CHW will receive various training and assistance from Ministry of Health but some of them showing unstable position of CHW. However, those people usually respected by the villagers because they used to treat the villagers in their community by using their knowledge and shelf learning about public health. In other way CHW is person contributed to help their community in healthy living. So anyone can be a part of community health worker:
• Parents or guardian can educate their children or family members about the hygiene.
• The farmers can explain each other about the way how to increase their farming production.
• The teachers can educate their student about how to prevent and how to treat the sample disease and small injury.
• The students can share the information or knowledge to their parents of family members.
• The medicine seller can clear understanding about corrected medical usages and be able to give the appropriated advice back to their buyers.
• The midwife can explain to the parents about the importance of the corrected way to eat good food especially when getting start the pregnant and can advise the family plan.
So this section will introduce you about the general knowledge of community health as well as family. If you are a nurse or assistant, and doctor should not consider that this section is not for you. It wrote for CHW only or anyone in the community, so please help to continue to support. CHW should explain what he/she catch up to the villagers or can discus in the small group meeting and read all the key points to them and then question about the real issues or real situation in their community. All most of this section guided you about the needs of villagers in health services. But to support your villagers living with prosperity and peaceful first of all, you should understand the necessary needs of human being in your community. Your understanding and your connecting with villagers are very importance such as your knowledge related with health and sanitation of community.
To be a good and active CHW, we would like to suggest you in the way in support the community health for the villagers living with healthy as following:
1. Be friendly with villagers and good behavior
2. Sharing your knowledge related the health to community
3. Respect to culture and belief of the community.
4. Accept your limitation of knowledge about the health
5. Willing to learn the additional knowledge
6. To be good model to community
7. Participation in all activities in the community
8. Considering the long term and educate the other villagers to consider as what you planned
CHW should clear understanding the disease and find the way how to prevent the disease. You should also remind the villager to have good cooperation to prevent the health of villagers. Your additional function is to educate the villagers about the roof causes of health damages and response to solve the problem. There are some problem related to the community health and there are so many reasons connected each other. For example in the villages the cholera is the main roof cause of the villagers die. For the children will contaminate quickly if you lack of hygiene and proper cleaning. But we can solve this problem by building the toilet and educate them how to wash the hand or how to clean. However, some cases the children died or some of them getting sick are the children had lack of nutrition. They cannot struggle the sickness because of cholera. So to prevent them from the dead cause by the cholera we should prevent them from lack of nutrition. To understand the roof causes of the children have lack of the nutrition, we should focus in some questions during the village meeting. We should prepare all the questions related to the health issues and nutrition for the children. If they discuss together, they can find the way how to response the community health especially with children.
